Youth Outreach

On January 27, 2012 the Youth Group gathered at St. Michael’s at 4:30PM. The activity began with prayer followed by a review of safety guidelines for Street Outreach. Many thanks to Star Haleamau and Shirley David for being our chaperones for the 11 teens who set out to learn more about what life on the street for young kids is like. Each group carried a backpack filled with practical items, non-perishable food and bottled water. We walked through town to the Old Airport beachfront. The Youth Minister showed the kids a few hot spots where families and kids can be found. Our purpose in doing this activity was to create awareness in our young people about what goes on in our own community with homelessness and the services teens can offer to their peers. The youth were able to ask questions about what life is like on the street for kids, and the Youth Minister provided feedback. The experience also gave the Youth Group a lot to think about. The activity ended back at St. Michael’s with a discussion about the evening experience.
