In today’s gospel we hear about the call to discipleship. Since Jesus was now beginning His public ministry, He called others to serve with Him. It required faithful followers or disciples to help spread the good news about the Kingdom of Heaven to the Jewish people. Some, like Peter, Andrew, James and John, left their families and their lives as fishermen quickly and decisively to witness to the proclamation of the good news.
We are all called to discipleship. Some recognize it immediately in the events of their lives and respond to the call without hesitation. Others feel uncertain and take longer to respond. It is important to remember that the call to discipleship comes from God. We are all called to respect the dignity to of the human person, to promote and support strong family relationships, to promote the common good on our communities and to foster peace and justice for all.
