Today we light the second candle during this Advent season. Our preparation and anticipation heighten as Christmas approaches. We hope in the Lord for we know He will come and with Him there is always peace. Isaiah 11:9 assures us “There shall be no harm or ruin on all my holy mountain; for the earth shall be filled with the knowledge of the Lord, as water covers the earth.” During these weeks, we pray for peace of mind and heart for ourselves, our families, our nation and peace in the world. When Jesus, the Word made Flesh, comes into our lives, everything changes.

Please do not forget that Wednesday is a Holy Day of obligation in our diocese. We celebrate the Immaculate Conception of the Virgin Mary. Mary, the Immaculate Conception is the patroness of the countries of North America. On Dec. 8, we remember that Mary was born free of all sin. She was a perfect human being, the perfect woman to bring the Son of God into this world. Please consult the Mass schedule in the bulletin for the Mass times and places.

Today is our One Ohana. As a whole community, we will discuss the catechesis surrounding the Incarnation of the Lord. Today’s session is called Jesus Is Born. There will be prayer and learning activities for children in Grades 1-5, teens, and adults. Please join us for lunch at noon and the activities to follow. Many members of the parish community have volunteered so much of their time to assist in the planning and preparation stages for each of the One Ohana sessions. There are gifts galore in our community. It takes something on the scale of One Ohana to call forth the heretofore unrecognized creativity and generosity we are experiencing. I am most grateful.

Last week, I failed to mention my thanks to all who took advantage of the mission evenings with Fr. Bill Burton. A number of you have requested that we bring Father back to do more Scripture. In February, we will have a different type of Parish Mission. It will be more like a retreat and will occur during the day. The Priest who will give this mission on Prayer is a Jesuit named  Fr. Armand Nigro. We look forward to Fr. Nigro’s pre-Lenten Mission/Retreat.

Please remember that the Saturday afternoon Mass next week will be at 4PM because of the parade.

Peace in Christ,
Fr. Lio
