During this economic downturn, let us not let go of SPIRIT.

During this economic downturn, let us not let go of SPIRIT.

As people struggle during these difficult times, worrying about how they will survive financially during this economic downturn, let us not let go of spirit.  For some of us, maintaining our spiritual health in difficult times is more challenging.  In today’s Gospel, the manager said, “What will I do now that my master is taking this job from me?  I am not strong enough to dig and I am ashamed to beg.”  We know from the story that he was committed to finding a way out and he did.  He survived.  When troubles drag us down and make our spiritual well-being seem impossible to maintain, reflection and the will to find a way will triumph.

Each week, I remind you of our need for your presence at the public hearing on Thursday, Sept. 30th, at 10am. The hearing will be at the King Kamehameha’s Kona Beach Hotel.  It is your presence that will speak to our need for a Church.  The parish has hired a very competent consultant who wrote the SMA (Special Management Area) application and will verbally address whatever issues arise during the hearing.

Please remember to register your family for One ‘Ohana.  I need to remind you that First Communion is a two-year process.  If you have friends, relatives, or other acquaintances who have children in 1st Grade, please remind them that it is mandatory that they register and bring their children to One ‘Ohana this year according to our schedule.  If parents bring a 2nd Grader or older child next year and request First Holy Communion, they will have to wait a year until they fulfill the first-year requirement.  In some cases, parents do not attend Mass, do not read the bulletin, do not read the website and come expecting that the parish will just accept a child who has had no Religious Education.

On a lighter note, thanks to all who made the Huli Huli Chicken fundraiser a smashing success.  Not only was it a great meal for the price, but it was also an opportunity for people to meet and share fellowship.

Another Golf Tournament is also in the planning stages.  We’ll hear more about that as the committee solidifies their plans.

Enjoy whatever blessings the week brings.
