During this week we will celebrate another Solemnity (first-class feasts of the Catholic Church). On Tuesday, we will honor the two greatest pillars of the Church: they are Saints Peter and Paul. This feast most likely marks the martyrdom of both saints in Rome. The 2010 Source Book, published each year by Liturgical Training Publications, says of these two giants, “The two inseparable apostles represent the two faces of the church, one and universal. Jesus chose Peter to shepherd the whole flock so that he might keep unity among the groups. He chose Paul to evangelize, to proclaim Christ to the pagan nations. Although very different from one another, they worked toward the unity of the Church and the spread of the Gospel.”
Today is Baptism Sunday. We ask your prayers for these children, their parents, and godparents. It is our hope that the parents of these children will take seriously their responsibility to encourage them, teach them their prayers, and show them what it is to live as a child of Jesus.
The Special Management Area use permit (SMA) for our new church and parish center will soon be presented to the County Planning Department. The Planning Department has 30 days to reject or accept our plan. This is the process during which we will need tremendous, enthusiastic support from all of us at St. Michael’s to the larger community. This is a big step toward reaching our goal. More news will come as we progress.
