As you know, for the past year we have been looking for an accompanist to play for all the Masses and other liturgical functions. We have hired Brett Ross who moved recently from San Francisco. Brett has a degree in music from the San Francisco Conservatory of Music and brings a variety of experience in performing. I am grateful to Ariel and Cynthia for helping me in the interim. Both of them sacrificed a lot to provide music for the Masses.
Walter Bacxa continues to be the coordinator of music for St. Michael’s. Walter is responsible for selecting and planning all the liturgical music. Walter conducts all the choir rehearsals and trains the Cantors. Instead of having one person responsible for planning and playing, Walter and Brett will work as a team.
We will continue with the a capella music until Holy Thursday. After the Gloria on Holy Thursday, we will return to a capella until the Gloria at the Easter Vigil.
Don’t forget our Reconciliation Service on Wednesday, March 24th at 6pm. It is a wonderful experience for the faith community to come together and open our hearts to experience the Sacrament of God’s mercy and forgiveness in preparation for renewing our Baptismal promises once again at Easter.
On Thursday, March 25th, I will be with the Filipino Catholic Club at 6pm in the tent to weave crosses for Passion Sunday. I welcome anyone else who would like to learn to weave. The crosses we will make will be beautiful. Please join me.
Next weekend, fourteen of our Youth are registered to attend the Big Island Youth Day at Hawi. As a part of this experience, they will attend the With Grateful Hearts Concert which is also being held in Hawi.
