Lord's Baptism
We celebrate the Baptism of the Lord this Sunday. Rejoice and give thanks for the gift of your own baptism. Each of us at the time of our baptism was born into the Paschal Mystery of Christ. No greater gift could we have received.
After Jesus was baptized and the Holy Spirit descended upon Him, there was a voice from heaven that said, “You are my beloved Son; with You I am well pleased.” I ask you to keep these words close to your hearts. Hear them each day as you begin anew to love and serve Him. Every human being is created in God’s image and is precious in His eyes.
During the next three weeks, we will be preparing ourselves for our annual Parish Mission. The Mission will be Jan. 25, 26, 27, 28 at 7pm each evening at Immaculate Conception Hall in Holualoa. The topic for this year’s Mission will be “The Bible as the Word of God.” The priest who will give the Mission is Fr. William Burton, OFM. He is a priest of the Archdiocese of Chicago. As an introduction to the Mission, Fr. Burton will preach at all the Masses at St. Michael’s on Jan. 24th.
Because the week of the mission and the date for One ‘Ohana are so close, we have decided to cancel the One ‘Ohana for February. On Friday evening, Jan. 29th, we will have a “family evening” with Fr. Burton. The talk will be geared toward the children and youth. At 6pm there will be supper and fellowship for parents and children, followed by Bible Study in IC Hall at 6:45pm. The learning activity will last for one hour. I am asking that parents or grandparents offer each child this opportunity to learn more about their faith.
Thank you again to all who helped to make our Christmas celebrations so beautiful. I realize that there are many inconveniences related to being in the tent. These details are handled so smoothly that they are barely perceptible to those who worship with us.
Bishop Larry will be visiting all of us later this month. Please read the bulletin for the details of the Bishop’s afternoon with our parishioners. New Year’s Blessings to you and your families. —Fr. Lio
