Feast of the Epiphany of the Lord / Three Kings
Today, we celebrate the Feast of the Epiphany of the Lord. This is the day when Jesus revealed Himself to the Three Kings who traveled from the East in search of the Child. The journey must have been long for them, but they persevered in order to offer their gifts of gold, frankincense, and myrrh. Ours is a spiritual journey. We, too, have gifts to offer Him. These are the gifts with which we have been blessed, the gifts we use in love and service to our brothers and sisters.
On this feast, many Catholics follow the tradition of welcoming the Three Kings by the blessing of the home. With the family gathered, write with chalk on the outside of the house above or next to an entrance:
(write the first half of the current year, as shown)
+ 20
CMB
10 +
(write the other half of the year, as shown)
CMB can stand for either Caspar, Melchior, Balthazar OR Christus, Mansionem, Benedicat.
End your service with the prayer, “Lord God of heaven and earth, You revealed Your only begotten Son to every nation by the guidance of a star. Bless this house and all who inhabit it. May we be blessed with health, goodness of heart, gentleness and keeping Your law. Fill us with the light of Christ, that our love for each other may go out to all. We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen.” —Fr. Lio
