Justice Challenge: Lent begins with Ash Wednesday. The three traditional Lenten practices are praying, fasting, and almsgiving. Your challenge this week is to find a way to journey through Lent in solidarity with your brothers and sisters in need—here at home and across the globe. Choose one person or group which has been treated unjustly, neglected, abandoned, or is suffering from a natural disaster. Commit to praying for this person or group every day of Lent. Choose one thing you can fast from or “give up” for Lent to be in solidarity with the person(s) with whom you are journeying. Use the money or the time you would have spent on whatever you are giving up to do something concrete to help. Make a commitment to donating time or money to whatever organization (e.g., Catholic Relief Services, Catholic Charities, and St. Vincent de Paul) is reaching out to the person(s) for whom you are praying.
