Justice Challenge - The Gospel this Sunday has Jesus challenging us to trust in God’s providence.  Jesus reminds us that God takes good care of birds and flowers, even though they don’t do anything to “earn” God’s love.  We, too, are cared for by God in a way which is unconditional and limitless.  Your challenge this week is to live as if you really trust that God has enough love for you and for everyone else in the world.  To do this, ponder the words of Pope John Paul II in his homily at Living History Farms in Des Moines, Iowa:  “We must give of our substance, not just of our abundance.”  Reflect on what this statement means in your own life.  Do you ever get jealous or resent others for the money or possessions they have or achievements they’ve made or love and affection they’ve received from others?  If you rejoice with others for all the good things which come into their lives, thank God for giving you such a loving heart.  If you carry resentment or jealousy in your heart, or only give to others when you yourself have more than you need, do one concrete action which reveals your trust in God’s providence.  It might be congratulating someone else on a success when you mess up; it might be sharing something you have (something essential, not something extra) with someone in greater need than you.
