Liturgical Ministry Recruitment & Training

E Komo Mai!  Parishioners are asked to consider fulfilling their baptismal call by serving as liturgical ministers at St. Michael’s and at our Mission Churches:  Holy Rosary, Immaculate Conception and St. Paul’s.  We encourage those of you who meet the basic requirements to join one or more liturgical ministries:  Arts and Environment, Choir, Extraordinary Ministers of the Eucharist at Mass and to the Hospital and Homebound, Funeral, Greeter, Lector, Sacristan, and Usher.   A table will be set up with Liturgical Ministry information forms available after Masses on February 11th and 12th at all Churches.  Members of the Liturgy Committee will be at the table to answer any questions you may have.  All new and current liturgical ministers are asked to complete one of the information sheets.

The following Saturday morning, February 18th, there will be a Liturgical Ministries Training in St. Michael’s tent.  We will begin with a Continental Breakfast at 8:30AM, followed by liturgical training for all ministries at 9:00AM.  This is a mandatory meeting for all new and current weekend and daily Mass liturgical ministers from all Churches.  Anyone who does not attend will be sent a letter from Fr. Lio offering them an opportunity to attend an alternate training session.  If they neglect to attend they will be removed from the schedule. Mahalo!

Retreat

Father Armand Nigro, SJ will be here once again to direct our pre-Lenten Retreat.  Father’s talks will take place on the 27th, 28th, and 29th of February at 10:30AM at Immaculate Conception in Holualoa.  Father is a former university professor.  He is best known for his retreats, parish missions and Biblical Institutes.  His strong commitment to his ministry, even in his retirement years, has inspired him to offer his service without charging a fee.

Father will celebrate the noon Mass after which he will be available for confessions and spiritual direction.  There will be a signup sheet at Immaculate Conception on the 27th.  Each person may have 20 minutes with Father.  Those who encountered Father last year, know that he is a very spiritual man and a special human being.

Blessed Marianne Cope Ministry Project

Thank you to those who have contributed to the Welcome Baskets we are making for families going into transitional housing out at Kaloko. If you have items to contribute, please drop them either in the box outside of the Blessed Marianne Cope office up at Immaculate Conception or leave them in the Parish Office for Maureen Bagley. We will continue to prepare these baskets and distribute about 3 per month. Sheet sizes needed are twin, regular and queen. Toothbrushes are in short supply but we have an ample supply of toothpaste. A starter basket needs laundry and dish soap, towels, a minimum amount of flat ware and dishes.

Since the baskets are from the members of our faith community, we will ask members of the parish to deliver the baskets. We need to know the individuals we serve as real people with their own hopes and dreams.

First Communion for Older Children

If there are children in the parish who are between the ages of 12 and 17 and have not yet prepared or received their First Communion, please call Cynthia Taylor at 960-0734. I will set up a class that goes from April 2012 to November 2012. Children who are younger than 12, will be prepared by their parents in next September’s regular group.

Knights of Columbus Dinner Dance

Come dance the night away on February 11, 2012, at the annual Knights of Columbus Dinner Dance. Those who attended last year can tell you that it was a smashing success. Roy Galigo’s music provided enough variety to get everyone up on the dance floor. The food was tempting, even to the disciplined weight watcher. Best of all, the atmosphere was one of enjoyment and friendship. The place is the Kamehameha Hotel at 6PM. Buy your tickets after Mass. The cost is $45 per person.

One ‘Ohana

There will be no One ‘Ohana in February. There are, however, scheduled classes or activities for First Eucharist on Sunday, February 5th at 9:30AM, 1st-Year Confirmation on Sunday, Feb. 12th and 2nd-Year Confirmation on February 19th at 10:30AM. All scheduled activities will be held at Immaculate Conception Hall.
