MAHALO NUI LOA from “HOLY KAPA”

Thank you to all the volunteers who donated their time and/or talents to make our Christmas Bazaar an overwhelming success.  We are always amazed by not only the people in our quilt group; but, also all who participate with their sense of cohesiveness and responsibility.  Happily all profits go to our Building Fund.

Congratulations to Sally Bazaire of Lake Havasu, Arizona for winning the Christmas Quilt Drawing.  Approximately half of all drawing tickets were purchased by visitors to St. Michael’s.  We are very grateful for their support and generosity.

THE LEGION OF MARY

There will be a living rosary after the 7 AM mass on Wednesday, December 16 in front of the grotto.   Afterwards, please join The Legion of Mary for a continental breakfast

CATHOLIC CAMPAIGN FOR HUMAN DEVELOPMENT

Many thanks to all who contributed to the Catholic Campaign for Human Development collection on November 22.  You can be sure that your money will be used by the Diocese to promote programs which help lift people out of poverty.

It came to my attention after the collection that some in our parish are under the mistaken notion that CCHD awards grant money to programs that support abortion.  It is completely unthinkable that Bishop Larry would permit that to happen.  Unfortunately, people hear things and fail to validate them.  One can always call the Diocesan Office if there are lingering doubts.

CCHD is the educational arm of the National Conference of Catholic Bishops for issues that relate to poverty.  It is not simply a once a year collection.  In the Diocese of Honolulu, Sister Roselani chairs the commission which is appointed by the Bishop. I represent the West Hawaii Vicariate on this commission.  Bishop Larry approves all grant requests.

There also was some recent concern about ACORN.  They have received no funding for over three years from the Catholic Church. I will update you throughout the year about initiatives that are current and relevant.

January is anti-poverty month and we will focus on education ourselves and others about poverty in this country.  Whenever you have questions, please ask.  Cynthia M. Taylor, Pastoral Associate

One Catholic Ohana Goes Global

Please help celebrate Christmas Mass with those who live in the dump at Payatas, Philippines.  Anyone who can give a monetary donation, can do so the next three weekends:  Dec. 5-6, 12-13, and 19-20. Put any cash in an envelope marked “Mass at the Dump” or checks payable to St. Michael’s Church, with a note on the memo line “Mass at the Dump.”  Thank you for your generosity.
